Applied Sciences NYC – A Challenge to Make NYC More Competitive Globally

Guest post by, Grace Cheung, NYCEDC

Here’s a New York City big idea that could impact your future. Mayor Bloomberg and New York City Economic Development Corporation recently announced Applied Sciences NYC—a new initiative to build a state-of-the-art applied sciences and engineering campus here within the five boroughs to spur innovation and reinvigorate the economy.

To meet a demand for more top-flight scientists and engineers and to make sure New York City stays globally competitive, the City issued a challenge to leading universities and institutions from around the world to propose a world-class applied sciences campus in New York City. All in all, the campus could create nearly 30,000 construction and permanent jobs in diverse fields over the next three decades. It will also likely result in the spin-off of hundreds of new companies in NYC, generating billions of dollars in new economic activity. (See the infographic above for more details.)

Applied Sciences NYC clearly represents a very exciting moment for our City. Join the Facebook page to learn more at www.facebook.com/AppSciNYC or follow the initiative on Twitter as it unfolds at @AppSciNYC.
