What sets you apart from other young creatives?
Although digital and brand have emerged as my principle career interests, I’m working towards an International Relations degree at NYU, which really helps round off the creative side of me and enables me to think analytically and logically in my field. Combining an International Relations background with interests in digital and brand, I carved out a niche as a data-focused, result-driven, and creative marketer that leverages big data, social media, and intriguing content to deliver value-added messages to the right audience.
Ariel also chronicles her culinary adventures on her food blog, The Super Foodies.
What is your proudest career moment (so far)?
At a previous job, a major layoff took place abruptly and my direct supervisor was included on the list effective immediately. My work performance and professionalism not only got me to survive the layoff; in fact, I was promoted and given more responsibilities.
Where do you see yourself in in 5 years?
Career wise, I want to further build my analytical, presentation and persuasion skills. I want my ideas to freely travel through my words, to present to people the value I see, and be a pleasant and value-added person to work with.
What did you want to be when you were 5?
Perhaps be an adult.
What’s something cool you’ve done recently?
I launched my self-marketing campaign two months ago, which integrated my personal website, social media, Google analytics, Google Webmaster Tools, and SEO to help convey my value and increase my online visibility. I’ve had loads of fun analyzing my web traffic and other metrics to obtain the best possible self-branding results.
What’s something new you’ve recently learned?
I started learning coding on codecademy.com four months ago. Now I don’t have to send hardcopy birthday cards anymore, I code digital cards. Cool and environmentally friendly.
What’s your favorite social media network and why?
Twitter. Trends, data, hearing the audience, and self-branding- all in one!
What’s your favorite productivity tool and why?
Evernote. Plan the day every morning on subway, jot down thoughts when in line waiting for coffee, set reminders, check calendars, all in one, never been so easy!
What’s been your favorite piece of career advice you’ve received?
“Make your own luck. Become the architect to craft the context you want to be in.” Unknown
What has been your biggest obstacle, and how did you overcome it?
Being an international student – the immigration compliance – has restricted my career options. My solution? Try ten times harder to become highly valuable.
What do you do to get inspired?
Attend events and meet positive, optimistic people!
