The summer has started and hoards of new grads and students will be started new jobs as interns and entry-level henchmen. Starting a new job, especially if it’s your first ever, can be one of the most frightening and awkward experiences of your adult life.
First off, you got a job. Congrats! (Your mom is the one in the middle).
The joys of commuting begin.
Arrive to the office, already sweaty before the day starts.
But don’t worry, you can sneak to the bathroom to clean up.
Holy crap, you have a desk! Claim it, it’s all yours!
Alright. Feeling better, feeling good. You’re here to werk!
Then you have to learn how to use a landline again — confidence, shattered.
Next up…benefits training with HR. 401 what? You’re just happy you’re employed.
They gave you a PC. Dammit.
And of course it messed up. What’s your login again?
You completed first task…you set up your email!
You in meetings with nothing to add, but so excited to be there.
You offered to make coffee…but forgot you don’t know how to make coffee.
Your nightmare of going to the bathroom with new co-workers, now real life.
Someone asked you to get lunch with them!
Since you’re now employed, you’ll get the footlong, please. No more 6 inch subs for you!
Back to work. I was supposed to know how to do what?
Remember, whatever happens, it’s only your first day! Give yourself a pat on the back. Real life, here you come.
