Speaker Profile: Katie Sokoler, Photographer

Katie Sokoler delights the world. Supporting projects like Improv Everywhere and reminding people to laugh and to play, her work is often inspired by childhood experiences and characters. For instance, Peter Pan gave her ideas for a street art project like the video below. Regardless whether through photography, film or some other medium, Katie brings happiness to readers everywhere.

One of the four panelists for our Creative Diaries Social Media Week event, we’re lucky to have Katie share her blogging experience through her blog Color Me Katie.

What inspired you to start blogging?

At first I thought my blog was something only my dad would read. I just started putting fun, original content. Then I met someone who worked at Glamour, and from there my blog blew up to 20,000 views.

What’s one of the coolest things that’s happened to you as a result of your blog?

I started my career solely off my blog. People started hiring me for the style of my photography, and now that’s how I live. It’s pretty amazing.

Do you use any tools that make blogging easier for you?

I use Pinterest a lot, in lieu of Google image search. Image descriptions are more accurate and free of spam.

What aspect of our event are you looking forward to the most?

I like making people feel good, so I’m looking forward to connecting. One of my favorite things about my blog is hearing all the wonderful stories from readers. They’re so diverse – from all age groups, kids 8 or 9 years old, to grandparents and some readers from Asia and other far away places.

We love that Katie’s work is imaginative and carefree. What comes to mind when you view it?
