Meet Jovelle Tamayo, FindSpark Intern & Story Teller

Jovelle Tamayo has been a welcome addition to our team since December. She first joined the FindSpark family as a photographer at Find & Follow Your Passion back in November, where she impressed the socks off us by taking stunning photos of the volunteer team throughout the event (see below).

Since joining us in a bigger role as our Spring a Marketing & Events Intern, we’ve been incredibly impressed with her ability to tackle all types of creative projects, from social media to design. We know we’ll miss her when she moves to the West Coast in May to pursue a career as a photojournalist.

Meet Jovelle!

What part of your internship with FindSpark were you looking forward to most?
I applied as an intern because I immediately fell in love with the FindSpark mission after attending my first Find & Follow Your Passion conference last November as a photographer. It’s tremendous that FindSpark really roots for the rising creative professional — not only by giving them the resources they need to get ahead, but by adding a personal, encouraging touch to their interactions with the community.

I’m eager to gain insight into startup life, connect with fellow creators, and funnel my energy into cool campaigns and projects to benefit FindSpark. But most of all, I’m incredibly happy to be a part of the exciting things ahead for this awesome company.

If you could hear anyone speak at a future FindSpark event, who would it be?
I especially love hearing from entrepreneurs, so my pick is Brian Storm, founder of the multimedia platform MediaStorm. Brian diverged from his path of working with established multimedia departments at Corbis and MSNBC.com in 2005 to start MediaStorm, which has since innovated the craft of digital storytelling and story sharing. If you’re looking for a video or two to start with, check out a couple of my favorites: A Thousand More and A Shadow Remains.

Favorite Social Network?
As a photographer, I know exactly how controversial Instagram is in the photo world, but I love it! Cultivate the right feed of people to follow may seem like an intimidating task, but there are so many incredible users out there to follow gather inspiration from. My favorite thing about Instagram is it allows EVERYONE the opportunity to be a photographer and share pieces of their lives with the world — whether they compose properly or use a filter is irrelevant. If you’re not already on Instagram, get on it! Push yourself to make images that are important to you, even if your only subject is your cat.

Tip: If you’re a designer, you can follow graphic artists like @JessicaHische or search the hashtags “#HandLettering” or “#typography.” Love yoga? Follow yogis and take on their challenges. Follow your favorite fashion icons and you won’t miss a single #ootd (outfit of the day). There’s a corner on Instagram for everyone!

Give us a fun fact about yourself.
I co-organized and documented the Dream4TK journey, during which five students from my university biked 1,615 miles down the East Coast to raise money for a local charity. It was a world of fun and a serious crash course in planning a full-blown fundraiser from the ground up. Oh and if you want the most delicious donuts in the entire Universe, you have to go to North Carolina.

Welcome to the team, Jovelle.
