Tell us a little about yourself!
I’m a student pursuing a degree in Communication Studies. I was born and raised in sunny California. I’m so excited to be joining the FindSpark Team and I’m looking forward to the many new opportunities this summer. New York City was definitely a dream of mine, so moving here for three months is amazing!
How did you get your job at FindSpark?
Interesting story actually. Long story short, I discovered FindSpark through a live Twitter chat. I had just joined Twitter and I had no clue what I was doing and randomly found the live tweet. I joined FindSpark as a general member and started tweeting about the company and attended a virtual event. Now I don’t actually know the story as clearly on our founder Emily’s side, but she contacted me on LinkedIn (I think because of my Twitter activity and participation with FindSpark through the virtual events) and suggested I apply for their internship. Obviously I wasn’t going to say no. Even though I was in Seattle on vacation at the time, I put together my resume and cover letter and sent it her way. It was pretty crazy, but I could not be more excited to be here and working in New York City!
What part of working with FindSpark are you looking forward to most?
I am ready to learn and I am ready to work. As a student I feel that you can only learn so much in a classroom and I am so excited to be learning from the other girls, Emily and Nickie! There is so much to do in a small business and I excited to be a part of all of it.
What’s your favorite part of living in New York City?
I love seeing the different culture of a the city in comparison to the suburbs where I am from. I am definitely feeling the fish out of water vibe right now, but I am stoked to become a New York City native (at least for three months…haha). I have to mention the food too. There are so many different restaurants here I want to try them all!
What’s your favorite social network and why?
I am obsessed with Pinterest. I could spend so much time in my little Pinterest world filling my pretend closet and decorating my pretend house. I really like Pinterest because it is a cool way to spread different styles or information without there being a lot of stuff or words. It is all about the one graphic.
If you could hear anyone speak at a future Findspark event, who would it be?
Scott Harrison, founder of Charity:Water. He is a great example of following your passion and creating something from scratch. I think that students and young adults could learn from him and his experience. It is so awesome to see how many people’s lives have been improved because of this organization.
What’s one fun fact about you?
I am a traveler. I love traveling. This school year I have been to Chicago, Boston, Seattle, Portland, and New York. I love checking out the different foodie places and local shops. I would love to go to Eastern Europe one day.
