Tell us a little about yourself!
I was born and raised in New Hampshire, but took a leap of faith and came to school in New York two years ago. It was one of the best decisions I have made in my life! I’m studying Design at Hofstra University and have had the opportunity to get to know so many amazing people, explore a great city, and begin expanding my career!
How did you get your job at FindSpark?
Networking! I know that sounds a little to perfect considering what FindSpark does, but it’s true. I was introduced to FindSpark and met Emily about a year ago through a class trip. Emily had been a Design student at Hofstra a few years prior to me and had stayed in contact with our professor, who brought us to the Centre for Social Innovation for a talk by Emily. At the time, I really wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my career, or even how I would figure it out.
Emily was so motivational and inspired me to think about a creative career path. I attended many FindSpark events and kept in touch with Emily via LinkedIn and Twitter. When I decided to apply for the Marketing & Events Internship with FindSpark, it was awesome that Emily already knew me as a community member and that I had a recommendation from a professor that she knows well.
What part of working with FindSpark are you looking forward to most?
I am excited to work with a group of such upbeat, positive people! Everyone on the FindSpark team is passionate about what the company does and wants to make it the best that it can be. As part of a small team, I get hands on experience and have the opportunity to see projects all the way through.
What’s your favorite thing about New York City?
The best part about New York is that there is never an end of things to do or places to see. Being from a small suburban town, there were only so many things to entertain me growing up. Here, you have an endless stream of museums to explore and delicious restaurants to try. I’m so grateful that I have the opportunity to live here for (at least) four years and see everything New York has to offer!
What’s your favorite social network and why?
Being a very visual person, I am really obsessed with Pinterest. It is a great way to share enticing media and a wonderful marketing tool for companies. On a personal level, it is also a good compromise for my online shopping addiction (no really, I have a problem). With Pinterest, you can fill your closet, make delicious desserts, or decorate your home with the click of a button.
If you could hear anyone speak at a future Findspark event, who would it be?
Carter Cleveland, who is the CEO of Artsy, a company that is driven to make visual art as accessible as music. Not only do I find the mission of Artsy inspiring, but I would like to know more about Cleveland’s background. As someone who has varying interests in areas outside of my major, it would be interesting to hear how he took his degree in computer science and got where he is today.
What’s one fun fact about you?
I’m pretty sure I follow more dogs on in Instagram than I do people!
