A Message from Emily Miethner, Founder and President of FindSpark
In October of 2010 I started NY Creative Interns to help connect young creatives with internship and job opportunities. Three years later I’m absolutely thrilled to tell you the story of our evolution, where we plan to go and announce our new name to the world.
Our mission is to set up every young creative for career success.
Very early on after the launch of our website and Meetup group, we noticed in addition to our college student community, there were people attending our events who had been interns, but were looking for entry-level opportunities. We also saw career changers who have been out of school for quite some time and were looking for the inspiration to make the jump into a career they would actually love.
Whether you’re going for your first internship, deciding between the safe job and your dream job, or transitioning into work you really care about, we will now be better positioned to support you and help you find a home in our community.
We inspire career optimism in young creatives beyond just interns and those in New York. People from all over the world attend our Find & Follow Your Passion conferences and virtual events, and connect with us through social media as well as our newsletter. We encourage anyone who’s young, ambitious and wants to be surrounded and energized by other emerging and established creatives to join our community.
Maybe your spark is a new idea, exposure to a career path you might never have considered, or connecting with one of our speakers over coffee after meeting them at one of our events. We believe it’s best to continually find new ways to grow personally and professionally—to never become stagnant or complacent. Our new name symbolizes the full-circle nature of our community. When you’ve found your spark, be it a new connection, mentor, or position, you can give back by sharing insight through our guest blog program, becoming a speaker at one of our events or finding fresh talent through our highly curated job board. We’re excited to be a resource for creatives throughout the course of their entire careers.
Our New Membership Program
In conjunction with the new name, we are launching our first ever FindSpark Membership Program. We’d never be where we are today without the incredible work and support of our team. We’re thrilled to announce and are honored to be joined by our new advisory board, which includes Bruce Nussbaum, Author and Professor of Innovation and Design at Parsons, Tom Klinkowstein, Professor at Hofstra University and Pratt Institute and Founder of Media A, Jenna Campolieta, Career Counselor and Employer Relations at The New School, and Eugenia (Jeannie) Liakaris, Director of the Wasserman Center for Career Development at SCPS at New York University. We’d also like to thank our web developer Leo Newball and design studio Sunday Morning NY for leading us through this transition visually.
We’re confident this change will bring about exciting opportunities that will enable us to serve you and our community better. It’s a truly exciting time to be going after what you want, and we’re honored to be a part of your career journey and are forever grateful that you’re a part of our journey as well.
