Probably the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of networking apps are Meetup and Eventbrite. Of course these are great apps to find out about workshops and seminars, but did you know that Instagram is also a great way to network?

In case you didn’t know, Instagram is more than a photography app that offers cool filters for your photos. There are many groups that have been created to get fellow photographers together in the big city.

Even if you are not a professional photographer and don’t have a fancy expensive camera, don’t feel intimidated. There are still many Instagrammers who shoot with their phones, because after all Instagram is a mobile app.

Through these Instameets you can network with people who have many other interest besides photography; it is also a great way to get to explore the city. The best news is that these Instameets are free, so for all of you who are on a budget but still want to meet awesome people and discover new areas in NYC, this is a great option. You just need to cover your travel and food expenses, because after the long walks you will work up an appetite.

To attend these Instameets there are no requirements, so bring a friend or attend alone; you will without a doubt you make new friends while you’re there. If you plan on attending make sure you bring a portable charger, because using your phone’s camera will use a lot of your battery, which is nowadays everyone’s nightmare.

To get you started, here are some Instagram accounts you should follow:
