NY Creative Interns Weekend: Full Day of Inspiration, Great People, Learning, and Fun

NY Creative Interns is nearing it’s one-year-anniversary; a successful year filled with over 15 events geared towards networking and job preparation.  In anticipation of this milestone, we are about to tackle our most ambitious project yet: NY Creative Interns Weekend. Maybe we’ll come up with a more creative name but for now what’s behind the name is what’s important.

The plan?  We’re inviting all of our members to come together to experience a full year’s worth of NYCi events in one, jam-packed, fun-filled day. We’re going to give you the opportunity to meet some of the coolest professionals and companies in New York City; your ticket to learning about different industries and making great connections with peers and professionals. Plus, there will be a party to wrap up the night!

NY Creative Interns needs help making this weekend a reality.  Right now, what we really need is a space to host us. If you have any connections to a space that could host us in mid February, please email hello at nycreativeinterns dot com. We recently applied to the Awesome Foundation, and we think our write up for that does a great job explaining why we’re planning this event.

Application for the Awesome Foundation:

When I graduated from college last year, I was amazed at how many people were eager to help in my transition to the “real world;” whether it was giving me job leads, inviting me to events, or introducing me to cool people. My friend and Co-Founder, Reb Carlson, and I decided to start an organization that teaches college students and recent grads the importance of creating lasting connections with others and seeking out opportunities to learn and create new things. Thus, NY Creative Interns was born. We’re dedicated to enabling college students and recent grads to find internships, jobs, mentors, and inspiration through networking and meetups.

We’ve organized over fifteen events in less than a year ranging from panels with 100 guests to small interview workshops. The events give our attendees the chance to meet incredible professionals, get career advice, and make new friends. Our speakers have included professionals from Tribeca Film Festival, Mediabistro, Etsy, Google, Reddit, Publicis Modem, and more. We’ve partnered with Internet Week, Hashable, and Jenny Blake, author of “Life After College.” NY Creative Interns Weekend will be our largest event yet; a day of panels, workshops, networking, a party, resume critiques, mock interviews, and fun. We aim to host the event in November 2011 and Spring 2012.

We have an amazing core team of eight talented folks working to make NYCi the best resource for college students, recent grads and beyond. Additionally, myself and our Community Manager, Marny Smith, recently helped to produce Columbia University’s first ever “Social Media Weekend” (socmediaweekend.wordpress.com). With the knowledge we gained from that experience complemented by the contacts and resources we have gathered through our own organization, we are confident that we can put together another spectacular event.

We believe NYCi is changing the way college students and recent grads think. They are learning from each other and gaining great contacts because we make it fun and easy. Nothing like “NY Creative Interns Weekend” has existed for students and recent grads. We want to make it happen.
