Panelist Profile: David Gaspin of Condé Nast

We are thrilled to announce that the panel for our next Meetup, BECOME AN INTERVIEW NINJA, is made up of five amazingly intelligent creative professionals. RSVP HERE.

In the days leading up to the event we will be profiling the panelists here. We hope that reading just a bit about their backgrounds will get you nice and fired up to see them in person on March 23rd.

This week we’d like to introduce you to DAVID GASPIN.

What is your current position?
Talent Acquisition Director for Condé Nast.

What are the last three companies you’ve worked with or for?
Before Condé Nast I spent time with the Nashville Business Journal, 5W Public Relations and Playboy Enterprises.

What are your favorite websites/blogs to read?
For media industry news, For great career insights, When I’m off the clock, to see what’s going on in the world.

What was most exciting to you about the chance to participate in our panel, Become an Interview Ninja?
Ninjas are awesome. Besides, I think everyone entering the workforce should have the tools needed to interview well. Otherwise it’s the best interviewers who end up with all the good jobs; not necessarily the best qualified candidates.

What is your funniest interview story?
Here’s a recent one, and I’m not sure whether it’s more funny or sad. It was an informational interview with a designer who was a referral from a company executive. I asked him “How familiar are you with Condé Nast?” He looked at me, chewed his gum for a minute, and said straight-faced and seriously “You all make magazines, right?” In case you’re wondering, he didn’t get the job.
