Panelist Profile: Katherine Barna of Tumblr

Our next meetup is THIS Tuesday, April 26th at Etsy HQ!

Sell Yourself without Selling Out: Making It as an Artist in the Digital Age

RSVP here!

We are very excited to introduce our panelists to you all! Introducing our final panelist, Katherine Barna of Tumblr!

What is your current position?
Tumblr’s first Communications specialist.

What are the last three companies you’ve worked for/projects you’ve worked on?
Hearst Corporation, Newsweek, XM Satellite Radio.

How has the rise of digital media helped you advance in your profession?
Quite simply, I wouldn’t be here.

What are your favorite websites/blogs to read?
How to choose? My Tumblr dashboard inspires and motivates me every day. Some current favorites:
and every single one of my amazing Tumblr colleagues.

If you could describe yourself in one sentence…?
Katherine Barna loves a lot of things; helping build the best community for creative people online, her (poorly trained) dog and this crazy city.

What was most exciting to you about the chance to participate in our panel, Selling Yourself Without Selling Out: Making it as an Artist in the Digital Age?

I hate the term “selling out;” the only real selling out involves compromising yourself. There are so many opportunities available now for young artists to promote in ways that embrace creativity and collaboration. I hope someone leaves this panel with the spark of an idea for something great…

Do you have a question for Katherine? Let us know in the comments and we’ll be sure to ask him the night of the event!

We look forward to hearing Katherine speak in person on April 26th at 6:30pm at Etsy HQ. For more details about the event and to RSVP, click here.
