Among our amazing group of speakers is creative multi-tasker Jim Hopkinson. He is an author, blogger, podcaster, speaker and teacher who lives in New York City. He specializes in career development, and has researched the way that new media and technology is changing many careers and lifestyles. He is, “passionate about sports, obsessed with technology, immersed in social media, dedicated to running, and energized by the city.”
What Has He Done?
-Jim has written a book called, “Salary Tutor: Learn the Salary Negotiation Secrets No One Ever Taught You,” (Grand Central Publishing). His work has been featured in the Chicago Tribune, New York Post and Forbes. He uses a simple storytelling approach where he draws upon his past experiences in the working world, and includes case studies, illustrations and a little bit of humor. His aim is to help people get a fair pay.
-Jim also hosts a blog called “The Hopkinson Report,” that teaches people how to pursue their ideal career and lifestyle. His interview repertoire boasts more than 70 guests highlighting entrepreneurs dividing the growth of the digital age. The show is known for its high energy and entertaining content.
-In 2012, Jim co-founded a conference and newsletter that teaches people how to transition from a full-time job to an independent career. He teaches this through his social media class at NYU, and his business writing has been featured online on The Wall Street Journal, Wired and Yahoo Finance. He also writes a column for the 21st Century Business Review, a leading business magazine in China.
-Jim has managed online marketing and social media strategy for Wired.com. He championed Wired’s first iPhone app, launched and curated their Facebook page, and grew their Twitter audience from 8,000 followers to more than 1 million.
If you get to talk to Jim, bring up sports! He is an avid sports fan, having spent 8 years in digital production and mobile marketing at ESPN. He was also the third employee of a Boston-based multimedia startup which pioneered the used of MPEG video.
