The Story behind NY Creative Interns (@NYCinterns)

This article was originally posted on entitled “NY Creative Interns: I’m Doing that Whole Pipe Dream Thing #nyci1210”

I’ve been keeping my eyes and ears open to advice on what keeps you sane when transitioning to the “real world.” Something I’ve heard a lot is to have a side project.

I’ve had this idea for awhile…how can I help people who are looking for internships and don’t know where to start. This wanting to help in a mainstream way came about towards the end of college when I had a lot of friends asking me for advice on resumes, interviews, where to look, etc. These questions have inspired a lot of blog entries here, which has been awesome, but I wanted to start something more focused.

So, it has been DONE!

This past month, with the help of my amazing Co-Founder // Manager of Grammatical Awesomeness & Blogging Wonder, Reb Carlson, we finally started NY Creative Interns. This group is dedicated to enabling college students and recent grads to find internships, mentors, and inspiration through networking and meetups! In addition we are a resource for companies and organizations, helping to alleviate the interview process by creating cool, unique, atmospheres for creatives to interact and connect.

I want to help instill in people how important it is to get out there and meet people! I wouldn’t be where I am right now…with a really cool job working on this really cool side project, if it wasn’t for tons of people I met along the way who were super inspiring and encouraging. Some directly influenced my career and this project (I’m afraid to name some because there are too many!) and some were indirect sources who I admire for doing what they love and believe in.

Let’s bring it back.

We’re really excited that we already have our first monthly event planned!

Thursday, December 9th, 7pm at the Wix Lounge.

For more event details go here: If you tweet about the event please use our hashtag: nyci1210 [don’t judge me! I’m a social media coordinator, Ok? And I’m trying to make my professor of Social Media proud :) ]

So although this group has the word “intern” in it…it really is for everyone! If you’re looking for inspiration, feedback, a mentor, advice, fun, to share your story…and to just meet cool creative people, you should join and come to our events!

We’re only a few weeks old but have super high expectations! That being said, we need your help. Please spread the word and give us feedback! This group is for YOU so we want to make it what you want.
Tips, intern spotlights, company profiles, and more!
“Like” us and see internship/job listings and post your own!
